Some months ago a ludicrous thing Occurred at the works of the Woodbury Tissue Com* pany, where bands of paper for photographic use are made transparent by the use of certain solids dissolved in hydro-carbons. The vapor from the liquid had such an affect upon the workmen employed, that they reeled about the premises in a state of jovial intoxication, An accident of the same kind is now reported from America. At a mill there a pipe of large diameter was being painted inside with a mixture of benzine and asphaltum u a precaution against rust. Sounds of hilarity were heard proceeding from that pipe, and when the superintendant of the works peeped within he found bis men painting each other faces, and otherwise behaving as lunatics. It is quite possible that a fatal accident might happen in such a case as this and the use of such fluids as benzine should be guarded by suitable precautions.— Graphic.
