A Costly Diamond Necklace
The costliest necklace of diamonds ever owned in America was worn by the late Mrs Mary Jaue Morgan. She had a real passion for diamonds, aud wore them in hairpins, brooches, bracelets, and rings as well, but her special pet was a necklace, a riviere, ot diamonds, which coat her originally perhaps £7OOO, aud to which she had made various additions, until its total value was £50,000. Diamonds that once giisteiied in her brooches, hairpins,, or bracelets were transferred to thia necklace, and diamond* that no longer pleased her in the necklace were resetin the brooches, hairpins, or bracelets. Io her it was a perpetual pleasure to see the magnificent necklace increasing its magnificence. When she died the largest stones were sold Biugly ; but the necklace without them was so valuable that Messrs litiatiy bought it for £15,000. boon afterwards they broke it up, and for many months it has ceased to exist.—Harpers Weekly.
