YESTERDAY’S RACING.

POVBRTf BAY TURF CLUB’S SPRING MEETING. The Poverty Bay Turf Club were particularly fortunate in being favoured with .plendld weather lor their Spring Meeting which took place yesterday. Theri wai a poof attendance, between 800 and 400 being present. The proceedings passed off quietly, and there has been a very general expression of opinion that the meeting was one of the beet ever held in the district. Unfortunately there was one nasty accident. The following are the results;—.

MrrnitN suw, of 40sovs., miles, Tatham’s Uranus 01 (Woods) ~ 1 Pritchard's NinaB.lB (C.Btowe) ~ 1 Currie’s Cairngorm 7.11 (Stowe) ~ 2 Parson's Darnley 7.11 J (Adams) ~ 8 This was a grand race between the leading horses. There were several false starts, Robert the Devil bolting for some dietan ce. Ultimately a good start was effected, Uranus having rather the best of it. Redemption got the lead on coming up for the first time, Cairngorm being third. Cairngorm soon pulled through and got the lead, Luna coming up fast, and Uranus holding things well in hand. Nina then worked up with a rush. Coming up the straight for the finish Uranue got the lead. Whips were applied with zest at this time. As the horses gradually drew along together there were loud cries in favor of each horse, but when the post was reached a dead heat was the result. Nina was well ridden, and proved herself a game mare. A protest was entered against Uranus for having gone inside a post, alia the race was awarded to Nina. There were £76 on Uranus on the totalisator and £8 on Nina. Div., £lB 9s ; time, 2min 23 jsac. Satellite and Forest Queen were scratched, SUMLXB handicap, lEObovs., 1J miles, second horse to receive 25sove. from stakes. Dennett's Warama, 8.1 (F. Stowe) 1 Dufaur’e FitzJamcSj 8.2 (0. Stowe)., 2 Dufaur's Nora, 8.2 (Woods) ~ ~ 8 There was again much difficulty in starting' Warama constantly breaking away. After a few minutes a fair start was secured, Longwaist leading with Audacity next, Warama running up fourth. From the first it was evident Arab Maid was out of it owing to getting a bad start. Fitzlumes led the first time round, Slynter coming up well. Warama then began to look dangerous, but Audacity got up to the front and continued in a prominent position for come time, when Nora came up with a rush, Audacity falling away. Warama and FitzJamee now began to forge ahead and coining up the straight they were racing neck and neck. About 100 yards from home Warama drew ahead, and won by two lengths, Fitz James second, Nora being a good third. Warama was the favourite, the dividend therefore being small, i'urihau and Pouawa were scratched.

Duadine took the lead, but Kangaroo had the first hurdle. Duadine, however, again outpaced him. Bangatira threw his rider at the second hurdle. Mountineer bolted coming round again, and was thrown out of it. On passing the stand Nancy also threw her lider. Uranus still led, though Kangaroo showed signs of coming forward. The econd to last hurdle was taken splendidly by the first and second horses, but Uranus bad it all his own way at the finish. Dividend £2 Bs. Time 4min. 12sec.

Charon led from the start, but when nearing home the filly came rattling along, falling a nropper on the last hurdle. Charon of course got it all bis own way, Griffiths had a nasty fall, having his thigh broken. He behaved very pluokily, cheerfully submitting to the necessary binding. Both Drs Pollen and Innes were on the ground. There was a 80s dividend on Charon. flving handicap, ot 70sove., J mile. Hepburn’s Audacity, 712 (Farrell) .. 1 A. McDonald's Pouawa,7.6 (Stowe)., 2 Burnand’s Longwaist, 7 8 (F. Maher) 8 After some trouble, Little Spec got away with the lead, Pouawa next. Pouawa then forged ahead, Longwaist driving up, but Audacity afterwards collated the lead. This the latter maintained from a quarter of the distance, Little Spec being third when nearing the straight. Pouawa now made an effort under the whip, but failed to catch the leader, who was well ridden. Longwaist had an easy third. Time, 1.22. SBDUINO HACK HANDICAP, of fIOsOVB,, 1 mile, Malone's Off Chance, 6.0 (Moore) ~ 1 Bailey's Mo, 7.0 2 Charon, Minstrel, Chiquita, Quean, and Bruiser also started. Mo lad past the stand, Off Chance swinging into first position when half the ground had been covered. He kept the lead and won after a warm contest. This race was a complete boil-over as far as the machine was concerned, there only being four on the winner out ot 204. There was a £45 dividend, The horse was bought in by the owner for £l5. Chiquita and Charon were heavily backed, but both showed up very poorly in the race. pobcbd handicap, SOSoVs., 1 mile and 4 distance. Warama, 9.0 ~ ~ ■■ 1 Impostor, 6.3 .. 2 Audacity, 8.1? ~ ■ ■ ■, ■ > 8 Cairngorm, 6.3, also ran. Impostor got away first, with Audacity and then Warama. The latter worked into second place, but at batt-way post Audacity closed in, and the two raced together for second position until the turn home. Here Warama was nicely brought along by her jockey, and Importer was soon outpaced. Audacity also fell away, the winner gelling two the lengths to the good at the finish. Time, 2.7 J. Warama received nearly all the support of backers. VICTORIAN RACING. Medbournk, Tuesday. Oakleigh has been backed to win the Melbourne Cup at 100 to 10, £5OOO being taken at those odds. Australian Peer has been backed for all the money in the market for the Derby at 6 to 1. The weather is all that can be desired for training purposes.

Silver Prince did the best gallop this morning over Cup distance. Thunderbolt exercised over a mile and a hal* going freely. Enfilade, Abercorn, Trident, andCranbrook did serviceable gallops.

Spade Guinea, Pasha, and Rocket only went through moderate exercise.

Mslbournb, Wednesday. Algerian, not Arsenal, was the horse beaten by Australian Peer, Nothing important was done in the way ct training this morning, on account of the heavy rain during the night, Il is now fine again.
