Reply to Mr Joyce.
Sib,—l should have thought it a matter of very little consequence, either to the ratepayers or to myself, whether or not I suggested that I should be elected Chairman of the Whataupoko Hoad Board, but as Mr Joyce has caused so much to be said about my election it is perhaps as well that I should contradiet, through your columns, as I did at the Board meeting, the statement made by Mr Joyce ; and I therefore distinctly say that I neither asked nor sought in any way, that .1 should be elected chairman. The idea that the candidate who heads the poll should be chairman is one quite unheard of, and had it been a recognised rule, I may safely say that my supporters would have taken care that X occupied a very different position at the declaration of the poll than I did on the occasionjjof the late election. —I am, &c. John Coleman.
