The Gisborne Standard AND COOK COUNTY GAZETTE. Published every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday Morning.
Saturday, September 24, 1887. VALEDICTORY.
Be just and fear not; Let all the ends thou aim’st at be thy country's, Thy God’s, and truth's.
With the present issue Mr Wilson’s connection with the Standard comes to an end. Whilst leaving for “fields and pastures new ’’ he thanks the Gisborne public for the support hitherto given to the paper which he started and trusts that that sup. port may be continued to his successors. Although a complete stranger to the district he has been treated with much kindness and trusts he has made no enemies but many -friends. He has striven to make the Standard a lively, readable paper and a reliable compendium of local and general news. Whilst ever endeavouring to work for the good of the town, he hopes that he has never trespassed on the bounds of good taste and that for once at least in the history of the Bay the people have seen local and general politics treated fairly and without personalities. He now says good-bye and wishes both the district and paper he leaves every possible success.
