THE MITCHELSTOWN RIOTS

London, Sept. 14. The latest reports from the scene of the late riots at Mitchelstown, state that the casualties were at first exaggerated. The report that fiuy-four of the police and one hundred and fifty civilians were injured is incorrect. Fifty persons were injured, the greater number neing po!icemen. Only one rioter was killed outrigiat, and of the others who were wounded two are expected to recover. Mr Sexton, M.P., has challenged the Government to justify Mr Balfour’s assertion that Condon incited the crowd to oppose the presence of the official reporters at the meeting and exclude them by force. The official report of the riots state that when the mob attacked the police tho first time the police retreated to their barracks, but upon the rioters again attacking them they fired in self-defence, the rioters incurring just retribution.
