MORE PERSONALITIES.
We regret very much to see a man of Mr Gannon’s calibre descending to the use of gross impersonalities, the more so as his assertions are as false as they are unwarrantable. In another column appears a telegram from a Wairoa correspondent re Mr Gannon’s meeting there on Satur-
day night. In a small place like the Wairoa, political zeal often runs away with a man’s discretion and the somewhat enthusiastic exuberance of our correspondent’s report must be slightly discounted by his evident bias in Mr G.’s favour. We have not much to say to Mr Gannon in his absence, but merely wish to set him and his supporters right on their unfounded assertion &3 to Mr McDonald’s being a Government supporter and also as to his having succeeded Mf Graham through any political influences. This report has been contradicted by Mr McDonald in the most straightforward manner, and as to supporting the Government, his opinions re Ballance’s Land Act would be sufficient to deter him from ever giving unstinted support to a Ministry of which the member for Wanganui was a prominent member. We thought better of Mr Gannon. If he only went to the Wairoa to talk such rubbish as he appears, by the telegriln, to have done, we cannot give him much credit. We thought he was a smarter man than he seems to be.
