The team of cricketers to come to the colonies under the auspices of the llelbourne Club will be composed as follows i—G. F. Vernon, Hon. M. B. Hawke, 8. C. Newton, T. C. O’Brien, W. W. Read, A. E. Stoddart, Abel, Attewell, Bates, and Peel Verron, W. W. Read, Attewell, Bates, and Peel have visited Australia with previous English elevens. The team is a strong one in batting, containing as it does such men as W. W. Read, Stoddart, Bates, Hawke, Abel, O’Brien, Peel au d Vernon, and they need be, as after the professionals, their bowling is very weak. As yet they have no wicket-keeper, but as only eleven men are chosen so far, it is probable that a couple more players will be engaged. A tew weeks ago a meeting of market gardeners was held at Cheltenham near Melbourne to discuss the Chinese question. A clergyman, the Rev. Mr Caffein, who was present, suggested the boycotting of the Chinese vegetable hawkers. The idea was approved of, and since then several of the gardeners refused to supply the Chinese hawkers; others however, did so.
