The decayiug value of Scotch sporting property was abundantly manifested in the London Austion Mart recently. The estate of Bentnore, In Argyleshire, was purchased a number of y.ars ago by a wealthy sugar refiner for £200,000, and the other day the highest bid was short by £lO,OOO of the ha f of that sum. The property was bought in. The Deer Forest of Fannich, said to be the oldest in Bootland, was also bought in, the utterly inadequate figure of £44,000 being ail that any purchaser was disposed to offer. Twenty years ago there would have been keen competition for the possession of these attractive properties. Vincent Pyke says the Government retrenchment policy is one of 11 twopenny hapenny retrenchment.”
