COLONIAL FORTIFICATIONS.
ENGLISH COMMENTS.
London, July 28. The Morning Post, in an article with reference to the report of the Imperial Conference, demands the immediate fortification of Thursday Island. The Times is not surprised that the colonies refused the Government’s proposals to fortify Albany with an obsolete armament. It considers that if the sole result of the Conference had been the agreement to increase the Australian fleet it would have been worth while considering it. London, July 29. Lord Brassey, in a letter to the Times, urges that Albany should be fortified, the cost being equally divided between England and the colonies.
