DEATH OF AN OLD VETERAN. A SERIOUS OFFENCE. [Peb New Zealand Press Acency.] Dunedin, last night. The death is announced of Sergeant-Major Steven, an old army officer who served in the Indian mutiny, and at Kyber Pass. He was wounded at Taranaki in the Maori war, and never quite recovered from the effects. His death is deeply regretted here, and he will ba accorded a military funeral. A man named Jeremiah Levy was fined ten pounds to-day, or in default two months' imprisonment, for counselling and inducing an inmate of the Industrial School to ab. scond, and with harboring the lad after having done so.
