Says a London paper: A young American lady of Fulham having a difference of opinion with a medical student, who declined to apologise, “ went for ” him, and was successful in making him “ smell agony ” in the ,• shape of a slap on the face, which sounded to v 7 a select audience “ like a mule kicking in the head of a big drum.” She explained to Mr Paget that it was the custom of her country, r Af d he convinced her practically that it was his to bind over persons guilty of such uncomfortable national weaknesses to keep intact for the future the peace so ruthlessly fractured. It would really seem in regard to a breach of the peace, that in America the custom is more honored in the breach than in the observance.
Henry George, the apostle of dividing ■ up- says ■■ God never undertook to fnmish the labourer with an employer to set him to work,” to which the Oshkosh Tinies adds, that God never set but one man to work, and that was Adam, and Adam struck before the first crop sprouted. What a great thing it is to be posted in ancient history.
