SALARIES OF N.Z. HOSPITAL OFFICERS
P.A. TIMA'RU, October 6. Mr H. G. Naylor (South Canterbury) was elected president unopposed at the conclusion of the third annual conference of the New Zealand Hospital Officers’ Association today. The following officers were also elected. —Vice-presidents, Messrs F. Hopkins (Auckland), A. F. Wilton (Wellington), A. Prentice (North Canterbury), W. Richardson (Waitaki); executive, Messrs K. Harris (Wanganui), N. H. Wells (South Otago), P. J. Stannaway (Auckland), G. Mitchell (Gisborne). Mr Hopkins was appointed president-elect. The immediate past-president, Mr A. J. Phillips (Palmerston North) was added to the executive. It was decided to hold the next conference in Christchurch.
Because of an alleged delay regarding a new salary scale for officers the Minister of Health, Hon. Miss M. B. Howard, was sent a telegram. She had advised yesterday that a pronouncement on the salary scale might be made next week. The conference asked that she ensure that the interests of the members were not prejudiced by a, failure to backdate salary scales as all scales for other groups had been, retrospective and the hospital officers had made their claim in April, 1948.
