AUCKLAND, Oct. 6

Norman Helleur, former Auckland amateur middleweight boxing champion, has been declared ineligible to compete in the Empire Games at Auckland in February. A graduate of Loughborough Physical Education College ,England, he is physical welfare officer in Whangarei, hence the infringement of the international rules governing amateur status. The Auckland Boxing Association sought and obtained a ruling frqm the New Zealand Boxing Council. The international rules describe an amateur as ‘‘one who . . . has never taught, pursued or assisted in the practice of athletic exercise as a means of livelihood or pecuniary gain.”
