NYLON FLAG
The U.S. Government is experimenting with an American flag made entirely of nylon in an effort to find longer lasting flags for flying over public buildings. Flags made of cotton and wool last an average of 27 days. In tests, the nylon flag has shown great durability. It also stays clean longer than flags made of other materials. The Government now uses between 10,000 and 15,000 flags a year. It supplies flags for about 50 public buildings in the Washington, D.C., area and for an additional 1,250 public buildings elsewhere in the Nation.
