MALAY BANDITS RAID A TRAIN
SINGAPORE, October 3
Bandits in the Pahang State commandeered a railway train after shooting up police escorts and passengers. The train was travelling between Jerantut and Gemas when the driver felt it lurch, and he stopped. A big gang surrounded the train and a gun battle followed.
Three policemen were wounded, one of them dying later. A Malay woman passenger was killed and several other passengers were wounded.
The bandits ordered the passengers and th e train crew to get off, and drove the train themselves. They went a short distance, halted the train, tore up some of the railway line and tried to set lire to the coaches. They later withdrew. 'The line was later repaired and the train driven back to Gemas. The same gang operating in the area killed two Chinese.
