POISONED MIGRANT'S MILITARY FUNERAL

P.A. AUCKLAND, October 4. The detectives who are investigating the death, by poisoning, of the English migrant, Gordon James Pepper, aged 23, at his boardinghouse at Blockhouse Bay, had no new developments to report to-day. There does not appear to be any’ menve for any person wanting to harm Pepper. Inquiries are now being directed towards establishing how the dead mffn came to take a fatal dose and !:-> v the poison came to be in the boardinghouse.

Pepper was buried in the Returned Sc> vicemen’s plot at the Waikumete cemetery this afternoon. A large number of floral emblems covered his coffin, and “The Last Post” was sounded at the graveside by a bugler. The chief mourners were Pepper’s fiancee, Miss Edna Coward, and her family.
