CRICKET GREYMOUTH WIN BARLOW CUP BY 181 RUNS

The chief interest in cricket over the week-end was \ centred on the match at Hokitika on Saturday between Greymouth and Hokitika for the Barlow Cup. Greymouth won the trophy by 181 runs on the first innings. A notable feature in the game was that no fewer than six batsmen failed to score.

Greymouth won the toss and electto bat. In the first innings Greymouth scored 243. D. Dewar, who scored 68 runs, was the outstanding batsman of the match. A. Garforth scored 39, R. Donaldson 34, and L. McGrath 25. Hokitika replied with 62 runs, the principal scorer being G. Stapleton (26). The outstanding bowler of the day was L. UNITED WIN BY EIGHTY RUNS In the women’s match played at Camerons on Saturday, United defeated Hokitika by 80 runs. Hokitika won the toss and elected to field. The best batswomen for United were N. Thomas 40, D. Horrack 32, and M. Instone 17. Bowling for Hokitika, L. Coulson took 3 for 26; A. McMurtie 2 for 30; and J. McLean 2 for 22. L. Coulson, with 5, was the best of the Hokitika batswomen. Bowling for United, N. Thomas took 3 for 9; M. Instone 3 for 1; and R. Donaldson 2 for 11.

Hokitika went in to bat again, and were 3 down for 17 at stumps, J. Trotter, 4, being the principal scorer. Bowling for United, D. Horrack took 1 for 0; T. Knapp 1 for 5, and N. Thomas 1 for 6.
