“NEW LOOK” DESIGNER' PRESENTS SPRING MODELS

[From a Reuter Correspondent in Paris] Christian Dior, creator of the “new look” presented 170 models at his much awaited spring fashion show on February 12. Complete femininity, ease of movement, pure lines and harmony of colour were the characteristics of the collection. Skirts were shorter to midcalf and evening gowns were a trifle above the ankle. He has banished the rigid collar of classic tailormades and replaced it by long, angular broad reverses, forming one piece with the jacket. Short basques of jackets were often open at the back and stiffened on the front. They were worn over straight, narrow skirts and dresses. Many dresses were buttoned from the neck to the hem. Narrow dresses had detached and elaborate panels the same length as the skirt. Shirt dresses had pressed pleats and small straight collars with a big bow under the neck. One. named “Auteuiil” was in printed foulard, beige ahd white. Fullness was given by an inverted pleat on the front and presed pleats at the back. Silks predominated the collection and -lace was also frequently used. For day wear, dresses were often embroidered with handmade open work. Short evening dresses had pearl trimmings or flowered embroideries. Evening coats were embroidered with pearls and rhinestones or amethyst buttons.
