ATHLETICS A. Blackie Breaks His Previous West Coast Record

The Greymouth Amateur Athletic Club held a programme of track and field events at Victoria Park on Saturday. Conditions were good, apart from a strong westerly breeze that blew across the track. Owing to three senior competitors taking part in the Canterbury championships, the- meeting was held on a free-for-all basis. The usual handicap points meeting will be conducted by the club to-morrow evening.

The' outstanding competitor was undoubtedly A. Blackie, who broke his previous West Coast record, wheii he cleared the bar at sft. 7Hns. in the junior high jump. Blackie was in such fine fettle that he may even have improved on this height had he so desired. Times in the track events were nothing to enthuse over, no doubt the breeze slowed up the competitors somewhat. Results: —
