SWIMMING FOUR NEW RECORDS AT DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS

P.A. AUCKLAND. February 25. Four national records were established on the third day of the New Zealand senior swimming championships to-day. The Olympic Games representative, Miss Ngaire Lane, of Otago, reduced her own record for the 100yds backstroke from 72sec to 70.8 sec. Miss B. Casey, of Wellington, broke Miss K. Grey’s ten-year-old record for the women’s 100 yds freestyle event, with a time of 63.25ec, compared with Miss Grey’s time of 63.65ec. Both of these records were established in special attempts at the tepid baths, where the conditions of shorter length—33 1-3 yards—and salt water’ were more favourable than the 55 yards Olympic fresh water pool. In addition to these performances, both Miss N. Bridson (Auckland) and T. Logan (Taranaki) established times which will be applied for as records in winning the women’s and men’s medley championships. Miss Bridson’s time was 76.8 sec, and Logan’s 68.6 sec. The men’s and women’s long-dis-tance championships were decided over three miles. C. Conza, of Auckland, won the men’s title. Miss M. Craney, of Auckland, won the women’s title.
