WATAROA NOTES
FOur own Correspondent] Fine weather and fine prices, with buyers from as far away as the Buller, were the order at last week's sale of cattle at Wataroa. There was £27 17s 6d for a fine line of Hereford three-year steers, offered by Mr John Gibb, after they had wintered well. Mr Harry Wall left last week on a health visit to Christchurch and the North Island, where he will meet relatives and friends. A recent visitor to the Coast was Mr Jack McLennon, late of Hawea Flat, who proceeded thence to Hutt Valley, where he now resides. Messrs S. Graham and P. McCormack, of Franz Josef, were recent visitors to Hokitika. Mr and Mrs Geo. Kerr were visitors last week to the Fox Glacier, as also was Miss Kennedy, who was formerly the school mistress there. Mr Coxon, a former school teacher here, and now of Dunedin," was, with Mrs Coxon, a visitor, recently to the Franz Josef Glacier. Mr and Mrs P. McGeorge are at present away on a visit to Timaru Mr McGeorge is, at present the master of the Wataroa Sbhool. A credit balance of £lOO was declared in the balance sheet of the Wataroa Sports Club, when it met recently. The secretary, Mr Geo. Agnew, deserves credit for the financial position Recently there was a heavy snowfall on the ranges, and it had the effect of driving to the low country many thousands of the little birds known as as gold—or wax eyes. They invaded many houses and fields tor food and shelter. These birds are valuable in keeping down the wescls which take toll of crops and fowls.
