Denniston Notes
[Our Own Correspondent], DENNISTON, June 27.
Mr Reid and Mr Tennant, of Invercargill, recently paid a brief visit to Mr and Mrs J. Bamford.
Mr William Paige, of Manshallvale has returned from a visit to Christchurch.
Mr Huggart, of Christchurch visited Denniston last week-end. Mrs Streetly has left Denniston to reside in Christchurch. Mrs Pearson has left on a visit to Christchurch.
Mrs R. Marshall and family have returned from a visi't to Greymouth. Mrs Clarke, of the New Road, who has been a patient in Buller Hospital, has now returned to 'her home.
The Denniston Women’s Institute are now sending gift parcels to Britain.
A social was held by the Denniston Labour Party and Women’s Institute at the R.S.A. rooms on Monday to farewell Mrs Streetly. After a d’ainty supper, Mrs Philp presented the guest of the evening with a token of esteem from the Women’s Institute, and Mrs Baird presented one from the Labour Party, Mrs Streetly suitably replying. The evening was spent in games and dancing, Mrs H. Smith supplying the music. Solos were given by Mesdames Chapman, Anderson and Ward. Competition winners were:— Mesdames Chapman, Streetly, Smith, Braggins, Colrirn, Baird', Philp and Simpson. A very pleasant time was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
