Man’s Remarkable Escape from Death
P.A. WELLINGTON, May 21. A railway clerk at Ngahauranga, John Barlow, had a narrow escape from being run over by a train, and subsequently an escape from drawning, this morning, and is now in a serious condition in the hospital. While awaiting the arrival of a train, he slipped and fell onto the tracks over a small bridge when the train was less than fifty yards away. He fell through the tracks and into a stream which runs to the sea near the station, and when falling, he hit his head on the side of the bridge. Two men, who saw him fall, pulled the unconscious man from the water. He did not regain consciousness untill after he had arrived at the hospital, nearly a half-an-hour after the accident.
