LIGHTS ON MOTOR VEHICLES A S from Monday, May 26, regular checks will be made by the Transport Department on:— (a) Provision of proper and adequate lights on motor vehicles; (b) Adjustment of head lamps; (c) Practice of dipping. , In view of the frequency of motor accidents at night and the numerous complaints received concerning dazzling lights, Traffic Inspectors of the Transport. Department have been instructed to issue Traffic Offence Notices with a view to the prosecution of those drivers in all cases of infringement of Reg. 7 of the Traffic Regulations, 1936, as amended in 1909 by Amendment No. 1 of those regulations. Briefly the requirements are:— (1) Two equal powered headlamps capable of clearly illuminating substantial objects 150 ft. ahead; one red tail lamp visible 300tt. to the rear and fitted at rear centre or to the right; a white light illuminating the rear number plate, but not itself visible from the rear. (2) Under no condition of loading or operation may the headlights tilt upwards above the horizontal (when the vehicle is on a horizontal surface), or towards the offside (i.e. righthand side of the vehicle. , , , . (3) Lights must be capable oi being dipped in terms of the regulations. . ....
