A London cablegram announced that the marriage took place at Bar-ton-on-Sea, Hampshire, on June 20, of Captain C. H. Upham, V.C., to Mary Eileen McTamney. ; The engagement is announced of Mary Isobel (Molly), eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 11. George, Milton .Road, Greymouth, to Flying Officer I Ronson William Clarke, R.N.Z.A.E., eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Clarke, Shakespeare Street, Greymouth. Flying Clarke, who lias just received notice of promotion to his present rank, has been posted for overseas service. The following are guests at Revington’s Hotel: Messrs H. S. Hume, C. Miles, E. A. O’Brien, Minister of Transport and Marine, who arrived in Greymouth by Saturday’s express, will visit Westport in connection with harbour works this morning, with Mr D. S'. Kenned}' (Greymouth Harbour Board Engineer), and Mr E. F. Evans (District Engineer, Public Works Department), and. this afternoon he will visit Hokitika. He will: leave tomorrow morning on return to Wellington. Mrs O’Brien arid Miss C. Moore, personal secretary; to Mr O’Brien, accompany him on his visit.

The death occurred at Wellington on Friday of Mr. Alfred Maurice Lewis, a well-known business man. Born in London in 1862, Mr. Lewis was apprenticed to the aerated water trade, and came to New Zealand when he was 17. He worked with Strike and Fairlie, Ltd. in Wellington, Nelson, and Dunedin, and later bought a business which was known as the Wellington Aerated Water Company, which he carried on in partnership with Mr. Alec Thompson. Since 1903 Mr. Lewis himself carried on the business. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and three sons.
