. PRISON ESCAPEE. 4 DUNEDIN, May 10. One of the three men who escaped from the lock-up yesterday was recaptured this morning in Caversham suburb. He is Robert Wark Johnston, 23, who was sentenced on Monday to 18 months’ reformative detention, tie was seen at Mornington at 7 o’clock this morning, and was captured shortly afterwards in Caversham. Appearing in the Police Court, he was. remanded till Wednesday next. ‘"Victory” Riots AT CANADIAN PORTS. HALIFAX, May. 9. Scenes of destruction unequalled since an ammunition ship exploded at Halifax in the last war, greeted the city this morning, after “victory” riots. Similar riots also occurred in a smallei - measure at Dartmouth, across the harbour from Halifax, and in Kentville, 50 miles away, and Sydney, in the Cape Breton mining district. Some naval ratings described the riots as protests against the way, they were treated by Halifax landlords and merchants. Riots also occurred in the Montreal theatre district on Tuesday night. The mob smashed a liquor store, windows were damaged, and 30 trams had smashed doors and windows.
