LTo the Editor] Sir—The Mayor said at Thursday night’s meeting of the Borough Council: “I give wav to no one in regard to the principles of town planning.” Verv well then! Why does not the Mavor act in accordance with the Town Planning Scheme, Part IV, Page 27, viz.: Preservation of Amenities: —External Appearance of Buildings: (1) The Council may, within 28 days after the submission to it of an application for a building, permit, refuse to grant the permit on the grounds that the external appearance of th e proposed building would disfigure the locality; or tend to depreciate the value of adjoining properties; and shall, forthwith, give to the applicant written notice of its refusal, and of the reasons therefore. There are six further paragraphs on this subject, No. 6 (consisting from A to 9) covering the whole situation. Why hesitate? The law is. there Why not carry it out and give the objectors the right they are entitled to, and. are at present being denied? I am, etc.. ASHES TO ASHES.
