During the four-weeklv oeriod ended July 19, the export of timber from Grevrriouth totalled 3,175.388 superficial feet, as compared with 2 257,631 feet the corresponding period of last year, an increase of 817,757 feet.

Last week’s gold returns included the following: Argo dredge 43ozs, 9000 vards, 124 hours; Golden Sands, 39 ozs 12dwts, for 60 shifts; Moonligbt Goldfields 48ozs 17dwt; Snowy River dredge 1590z5, 124 hours, 26,200 yards.

The Coal Miners’ National Disputes Committee, with Mr John Dowgray as independent chairman, will sit at Christchurch to-morrow when the matter in dispute is the method of computing travelling time at the Dobson mine.

A severe cut over the right eye was received by the Canterbury halfback, L. Brown, during yesterday's Anisy Shield game at Wingham Park. He was taken to the Grey Hospital after the game, and was discharged after- having several stitches inserted.

Over 800 excursionists arrived on Saturday at mid-day by two trains conducted by the Christchurch Corsair Social Club from Christchurch. Many of the visitors proceeded to Hokitika and Lake Mahinapua, but bad weather conditions completely spoiled their outing. The visitors returned to Christchurch late on* Saturday night.

Briradier-General O. H. Mead, C,8.E., DJS'.O.. officer commanding Southern Military District, Christchurch, arrived in Greymout?! on Saturday evening from Westport, accompanied by Captain C. R. Duke, M C Area Officer, Nelson. Yesterday at the Drill Hall, he inspected the Grevmouth platoon of the National Military Reserve and the Greymoutn Home Guard. He leaves this morning for Christchurch.

According to figures supplied by the Railways Department, there has been an increase of 4740 tons of coal shipped from Greymouth in the four weeks to July 19, compared with the same period last year. All but two district mines show increases, the most notable being Liverpool and Blackball State mines. The figures with those for last year in parenthesis are as follows:— State Mine 5367 (2939).
