MISTAKEN COMPLAINT
CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS AND E.P.S. WELLINGTON. July 21. The Kilbirnie section of the E.P.S.. last night, passed a motion protesting against the action of the Armed Forces Appeal Board, in allowing thp appeals of certain conscientious obiectors on condition that they join the E.P.S. It is felt that conscr'pt' had no place in a voluntary organisation. The motion stated: We decline to serve with them, on the ground that if thev persisted in th"ir policy, the v will ultimately under' mine the whole' of our efforts.” THE POSITION EXPLAINED. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 24. Commenting on the objection to conscientious objectors made by the Kilbirnie E.P.S., Hon. R. Semple stat-
ed that conscientious objectors whose appeals are allowed are not directed by the Appeal Boards to perform alternative service with the E.P.S. Mr Semple said that it was difficult to understand how this impression could have been created as .it is I
; only those persons whose military service has been postponed on the I grounds of public interest, or of I undue hardship, who are directed to perform alternative service with . either the E.P.S. Emergency Fire I Service or the Home Guard.
