EMERGENCY HOSPITAL
AUCKLAND SOLDIERS. AUCKLAND, December 12. Work was started to-day on the erection of the emergency hospital m the Auckland Domain, the Government having accepted the tender of the Fletcher Construction Co., of £7OOO. The building, which will be of a temporary will provide accommodation for 150 soldier patients. The one-storey portion will be ready for occupation within three months, and the whole project will be completed within seven months.
N.Z. RECRUITS. TREATMENT FOR UNFIT. WELLINGTON, December 12. During the period of voluntray enlistment service, a large number of men were classified as temporarily unfit for service overseas. In order to assist these to gain entrance in the Army, the Government some time ago, decided to provide remedial treatment at the public expense. The men selected for,, treatment will be those who, in the opinion of the regional deputy, will pass grade one after treatment at the hospital, either as in-patients or out-patients for a period not exceeding tour weeks. Where temporary unfitness is due to eyesight defects, glasses of army patfern will be provided when the men enter camp. In all, Mr. Jones said to-day. there are three thousand six hundred men Ito be considered for treatment. Quite a large proportion are expected to Ibe available after treatment.
