ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
FINAL MEETING FOR YEAR. Under the supervision of the District Superintendent, Mr G. H. Griffiths, and the Brigade Superintendent, Mr P. Meiklejohn, the final meeting for the year 1940 of the Greymouth Branch of the St. John Ambulance Brigade was held on Wednesday evening. The District Superintendent, in bringing the year’s work to a close, said that it had oeen a very successful twelve months for the Brigade, which had proved a great asset to the town of Greymouth. Never before had the town seen the work of the ambulance so fully established. This state was not due to efforts of one or two individuals, but to each’ member of the Brigade, whom by their attention to lectures and classes, had been rewarded with the formation of a sound Brigade. The Superintendent also outlined the Home Guard scheme, stating that the Greymouth Brigade had as one, volunteered to the body. It was decided to form a division of the National Blood Transfusion Service, so as to be able to meet all emergencies at all times. Mr W. Moore was appointed secretary. The examination of eleven members of the Boddytown class was held all members passing by a large number of marks.
'The District Superintendent expressed his sincere thanks to Dr. McFarlane for lecturing the classes. The winner of the St. John Ambulance competition was Mr J. S. Harrison, Cobden. Miss C. Tanner, of Cobden, was second.
