BRITISH WAR PRISONERS
PARCELS GOING VIA SPAIN AND , PORTUGAL. (Received December 12, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, December 11. A question was asked in the House of' Commons regarding the dispatch of parcels to British war prisoners, via Lisbon. The Under-Secretary for War replied that the House of Commons representative of the war organisation of the British Red Cross Society was now in Lisbon, and he had reported that, on November 3, none of that organisaton’s parcels at Lisbon, totalling three hundred thousand, was due to arrive in December. The parcels were not unduly delayed in Lisbon, the average time being five days. The main delays were between the Portuguese-Spanish frontier and Germany. Urgent measures were being taken to help the International Red Cross Committee at Geneva to these delays. Parcels were now arriving in considerable numbers, and it was hoped to (obtain considerable acceleration in the near future.
