Mrs E. V. Ellery returned by yesterday’s express from Christchurch. Mrs E. Blake and Mrs N. Blake arrived yesterday from Wellington.Mrs D, Syme will return by tomorrow's express from Christchurch. Mr. A. Heaphy, arrived yesterday from Dunedin. Mrs. H. Moore, returned yesterday from Christchurch. Miss K. Tibbles, was a passenger by yesterday’s express from Christchurch. I I Messrs W. Hamilton and P. Durkin, arrived yesterday from St. Kevin’s j College, Redcastle. Sapper W. H. Agnew, Rimu arrived yesterday from Papakura Military I Camp, on sick leave. I Mr Les Groom of Franklin Street, is at present a patient at the Grey Hospital. 1 Mr W. Methven left yesterday to join the Roval New Zealand Air Force at Harewood. I Mr and, Mrs C. J. Moss, left yesterday on return to Wellington, via Westport. 1 Mr. E. Cholerton, representing “Proctors” Ltd., the Opticians Christchurch, is visiting Greymouth to-day only. | Mr J. Graham, headmaster of the ' Grey Main School, resumed duties yesterday after having been absent on sick leave for some time. Mrs. J'. W. Hannan, left yesterday for Christchurch to attend the wedding of her niece, Miss N. McConville, which takes place to-morrow. * Mrs. C. Hickman and Miss Alice | Hannan, leave this evening for Christchurch to attend the marriage of Miss N. McConville. Dr. F. Wilson, formerly of Greymouth, left yesterday for Invercargill, having accepted an appointment | on the medical staff of the Invercar- ' gill Hospital'. ' Mr. A. D. Pike, arrived yesterday from Christchurch to commence duties at the • Commercial Bank of Australia, Ltd., replacing Mr. O. T. Cheyne, who leaves to-morrow on transfer to Christchurch.

The death of Sir Philip Bridger 1 Froctor, Director of Meat Supplies 'for the British Ministry of Food in i the last war is reported in a London cablegram. He was aged 70 years and was director of several meat and transport concerns. | A London cable announced the , death of Lord Vestey, Chairman of | the Blue Star Line of Steamships. He I was Managing-Director of Union Cold Storage Company and had refrigerating interests and great areas of land all over the world. Formerly, Mr. William Vestey, he was born in 1859 and created a peer in 1922. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Ryan, who have relinquished the license of the Rapahoe Hotel, prior to taking over the Waiuta Hotel from Mr. E. McGallon, were met by the residents of Rapahoe and Runanga at a pleasant social evening. The Mayor of Runanga (Mr. R. McTaggart), in presenting Mr. Ryan with a leather cased set of binoculars, and Mrs. Ryan with a solid leather suitcase, referred to the'ir good work in the district during their three years’ residence, and extended to them good wishes for the future. Messrs F. O’Neill , and C. Noble, with other speakers, endorsed Mr. McTaggart’s remarks, and Mr. Ryan suitably replied. Mr., and Mrs. Ryan leave to-morrow on a holiday visit to Southland prior to taking over at Waiuta early next month. ' ! ;,. i<■
