N.Z. MEN’S VOYAGE.
[Per Press Association]. NEW PLYMOUTH, March 11. An unexpected arrival at the port of New Plymouth yesterday evening was the yacht Typee, purchased in Sydney by Mr C. F. Pratt. With a crew of two friends, he is on his way to Christchurch, his home town. The Typee 'encountered head winds m Cook Strait until, tired of battling against the strong southerlies, the skipper decided to turn back to New Plymouth for a spell. She made port at 7 o'clock last night, 16 days out from Sydney. I Mr Pratt said last night that his yacht is a 36-foot boat of 161 tons. His crew consists of Messrs Les O’Brien, /Auckland, and Dennis Bassett, Christchurch, friends of the owner, who, being at Sydney, volunteered to assist him sailing the yacht home. The voyage was rather slow for a boat of its 'type but all kinds of weather were encountered. For three or four days they had to heave to, but this procedure was adopted more out of con sideration for their own comfort than from real necessity. They ran into gales, but they also experienced excellent sailing winds. For four days they were becalmed a.nd this.idling on the ocean added considerably to the length of the journey. Everybody was very pleased with the yacht, and the wav she behaved under such varied conditions. Members of the crew were all well. They expect to remain two days at New Plymouth to rest before sailing for Lyttelton.
