ALDERSHOT TATTOO
LONDON, June 11. The Coronation Tattoo at Aldershot, in which six thousand troops participated. fittingly opened with an assembly of over one hundred multicolouredt banners repie.enting every Dominion, State and colony in the Empire, . These were borne by some of the tallest guardsmen in the British Aimy, who wore specially design, ed “Imperial livery” with the scarlet, and gold King’s monogram o n thebreast. The banners were' escorted bv Coldstream Guards and Senfortn Highlanders in the brilliance of their pre-war uniforms, who marched past to the air of “Rule Biittania.” which was intended to commemorate the courage find enterprise of the mariners who as isted in the creation of the Empi’te. i The banners reappeared' to represent .the Empire when the massed bands of twenty-four regiments, comprising thousands of muscian ; , rendered Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” as a thanks, giving for th fi Coronation. The bands als 0 . participated in ' the final spectacle found a gigantic golden lion clasping a silken flag emblazoned with the Im. peral Crown and the King’s livery colours, symbolising the Empire’s greatest link.
Despite a thunderstorm. which drenched the performers and thou, sands of spectators, and lightning rivalling the searchlights, the pageantry was carried out with full magnifl. cenee.
