GOLF

IKAMATUA CLUB.

The official opening of the Ikamatua Club -was held on Saturday afternoon, when |hc pat non, Mr IV. C- Mirfin, after a very interesting declared the season open, and Mr IV. O’Malley drove the first ball. The showery weather did not prevent a large attendance of players, including visitors from Greymouth, Reefton and Waifahu. Friendly games were played and a dainty afternoon tea was served by the ladies. The club should have a successful season, as the membership is nearly 70. The fairways are in good order, and the greens, which were sown down in the off-season, have made good growth and are. a big improvement. The club has affiliated with the New Zealand Golf Association, and Mr J. A. Clements, professional, will visit the club next month.

On Sunday, a match for the Waipuna Cup, played between Ikamatua and Waiuta. resulted in a win for Waiuta by four games to three. Following are the results (Waiuta names first): W. Clements beat A. McLennan; W. McCarthy lost to W'. O’Malley; B. Hempseed lost to J. Green; W. Hempseed lost bo F. Malley; I. Watt beat L. O'Malley; A. Hogg beat J. Kennedy; 11. Dunshea beat S. Brand.

A stroke competition in conjunction with the above was won by W. Clements, with the score 89—19—76

CORONATION MEDAL. Owing to the unfavourable weather, the Ladies Coronation Medal and Aotea-roa Cup match have been post, poned till! to-morrow, and twill be played in conjunction with the monthly L.G.U. medal match. The draw is: Miss Tennent v. Mrs Hannan. Mrs. McKay v. Mrs, Thorpy. Mrs. Allan Smith v. Mrs. Duthie. Mrs. Prescott v. Mts. Baker, Mrs. Kitchingham v. Mrs, Puller. Mrs. Brown v. Mrs. Bird. Miss Deere v. Mrs.Meldrum. Miss Sheedy v. Mrs. Richmond. Miss Berry v. Miss Pratt. Mrs.. Meade v. Mrs. Wilkins. Mrs Cassells v. Scorer.
