Teaching Appointments;

WESTPORT, June 16.

The Nelson Education Board has made the following teaching appointments: Westport Assistant Mistress. Miss J. Woodward; Millerton Assistant Mistress, no application, position to be re-advertised; Nelson Central, Head Teacher. Arthur Alloo, transferrod from Granity District High School; Little Wanganui. Sole Teacher, Miss I.'. Lego; Owen River. Sole Teacher. Miss S, Maxwell; Roefton District High School. Assistant Mistress, Miss A. Hendry. Alawheraiti; Karamca. Assistant Mistress, no applications. Boxing: There, is no more fervent ‘•upporter of boxing in the Buller district than Gus Parkinson, and no on e has made greater efforts to push the sport along than he has. Successful Card Tournament: The local branch of the Hibernian Society held a very successful card tournament at St. Canic.e’s Hall last evening. All tables were oe.cii|.ied and a good time was spent by patrons. A hard-working ladies’ eonim.itt.ee provided an excellent supper. The successful players were: Mesdames Forman. Collin’s, Aliss AlcGreevy ami Mr Craddock. A special prize, was awarded to Airs McGreevy. AlcFarlane’s Guy Fawkes continued its winning sequence by capturing the open flat and open hurdles and was only beaten on the post by Synagogue in Hie free for all after a desperate finish. The Maiden flat was won in good style, by Air. J. Barnett’s (Reefton) Wee Bess but this smart bitch hail to be satisfied with a dead heat, in the novice event with the locally owned Stolen Kiss. Th,, judge could not separate Jubilee Queen and Argyle Lass in the finish of the middleweight event and a dead heat was awarded. Air T. Hanshy’s Paddy accounted for the maiden hurdles in great style and the challenge event, over the sticks, Maxog'n and Rangatira was won bv the latter. The meeting was well managed and there was no undue, waiting between the (-.vents. The stewaids carried out their duties very ably.
