September 9Lawson Little 1934 champion, won the opening match in the national amateur golf championship to-day, de f eating Rufus King, a nineteen-year-cld Denver youth 3 and 1 Most of the favourites won their first matches in a field of over one hundred starters. Notable exceptions were Frarcis Quintet. who was eliminated 2 and 1, and Chick Evans, who was beaten 8 and 7. The ’atter thus suffered the most humiliating defeat in his long career.
