(Received December 30 at p.m.) “Germany is one her feet again. •’ writes Lord Rothermere, in his papei “The Daily Mail,” after a. week’s visit to Munich. “The Germans, through Herr Hitler, have found a new, potent faith, which has wrought a miracle in removing mountains of difficulties that have been barring the way to a recovery. Germany has set a new pace to human endeavour. She is a new Sparta, led by a Spartan, whose daily fare is as simple as that of the humblest workers. His example has encouraged young Germans to improve themselves thirty per cent, in physique. The zest for work in Germany is already high above the Stan.-.'d When a whole generation has grown up uifcFer the Nazis. the Germans will be almost supermen. Moreover, under Herr Hitler’s mag nitism. the nation has reached a selfconfidence and progress suggesting a
gigantic powerhouse. No limits max be set to the developments witl which they may surprise the world Germany to-dav is the strongest pow er in Europe.”

The “Manchester Guardian” prints a letter from a workman in Germany, who is employed on the motor roads. He says: “The workers receive scanty rations and small wages. There is a lot of nigger driving. There are manv serious, and even fatal accidents. There is frequent open mutiny
in the camps, owing to the scarcity of food. This shows up the glorious times to which Hitler has led us!”

The references in the article are so pointed towards Germany that it is believed that the article, with the Pone’s Christmas message, referring paganism, is designed indirectly to warn the German leaders against interfering with the Church.
