Holding that the consideration for the admission fee was a night’s entertainment, and the promise to award a prize, Mr Paterson, S.M., gave his reserved decision in favour of defendant, at the, Hamilton Magistrate’s Court, in the case in which Percy Johnston (secretary of the Frankton Railway Institute) was charged with a breach of the Gaming Act, by conducting a euchre tournament in connection with the Institute’s weekly socials. Defendant, who invited the prosecution, said that the Institute weekly social was for the entertainment of railway employees and their friends, and, besides dancing, there was a euchre tournament for those who did not dance, small prizes being awarded to the winners of these tournaments. It is expected that the new shipment of sixpences, New Zealand coinage, of an estimate value of £200,000, will arrive in about a fortnight, and will be immediately circulated. Mrs Carey clambered aboard the ’plane again. and made the return journey. She enjoyed every minute of the flight, especially the fine view of Marlborough Sounds, and her only regret was that she was perhaps a bit too old to train for her own pilot’s Ti cense.
