Of the Greymouth, team, Ford and Hall were the mainstays in the back*, whilst Clasper and Henderson were the < pick of the forwards. Stitt, in goal, 1 had a tendency to run too far with ; the ball but after being penalised a ’ couple of times he rectified this. Dob- -j son appeared a well-balanced team t withl perhaps, White, Kling and Coutts < standing out slightly. < Dobson won the toss and Greymouth 1 kicked off against the sun. For the ] first ten minutes. Greymouth* had Dobson busily defending. Clasper put in < two goods shots, which were well tak i on by Mitchell, the home goalie. Soon i after, Bailey put acro=s a~good centre, 1 whichi Nordstrom he-aded past. Then the unexpected happened. Dobson passed half way for almost the first : time, when King*' - kicked over Stitt's ! head to open Dobson’s score. Almost immediately, from a melee in front of Gireymouth’s goal, White headed the ball into the net to score Dobson’s second goal. From the kickoff, Greymouthi pressed hard and only good defence, kept them from scoring. Then play transferred to the tether end and King netted a th-rd goal a ■ few minute s before z Kalf-time. Shortly after the- commencement of the second half, Hall handled in the , penalty area and from the ensuing kick, King scored his third goal. Even play followed until Brailsford kicked ; to Bailey, who put in a fine run and ; then catered for Anderson tn score 1 Greymouth’s single goal. At this stage. Bailey was playing a good, game and only Mitchell’s excellence in goal stopped him from scoring on several - occasions. Play swung down the- other - end of the field and from a corner ( kick Shortt received the ball to score. ] Immediately after, White had a clear 1 run in, a,nd giving Stitt no chance, scored Dobson’s sfarith goal. Blackball carried out the duties of referee. COBDEN BEAT RUNANGA. At Cobden, the home team defeated Runanga by three goals to one in an even and interesting game. Maughan scored, twice for Cobden and McLean once. Tinnion Accounted for Runangagoal. Mr A. R. Hamill gave every satisfaction a s referee. REWANUI DEFEAT TAYLORVILLE. At Dunollie, Rewanui gained its first win of the season at the expense ■of Taylorville to the tune of four goals to three. THIRD GRADE. At Cobden, as a curtain-raiser, to the Cobden-Runanga senior game, Technical thirds Greymouth thirds by five goals to one. Caidwell, Marshall and Wall work scored for Technical, whilst Grant and Larking put through their own goal. De Freatus sciored for Greymouth. A feature of the game was the brilliant keeping of goal for Greymouth 15y the diminutive Campbell Mr A. McLean was referee. Rewanui defeated Marist at Dunollie by three goals to two; Clarke scored the three goal s for Rewanui, whilst Marist’ s tally came from goals by Gilligan and O’Connell. CHRISTCHURCH, May 9.
