The death occurred last night, at • her residence, Beach Road, of an old ! and esteemed resident of Kumara, 1 Mns Catherine Whelan. A native of j Dunstan, Otago, where she was born over sixty-six years ago, the late Mrs ; Whelar had come to the West Coast in "Uth, and was for some years a res ill nt of Hokitika, coming later to Kumara, where she had lived ever since. She leaver- a husband. Mr. Michael Whelan. formerly of the Borough Council staff. and two daughters, Mrs J. Atkinson, of South Beach; and Mris P. McCarthy, of Ka- t whaka, in the Auckland district. There are fifteen grandchildren. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will l>e extended to the relatives in their bereavement.
