WORK NEXT MONTH New Board to Function (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, October 21. Another large deputation of unemployed waited on the Labour Minister, Hon Mr Smith, asking for immediate action by the Government in order that the desperate distress of many of the men could be relieved. The Minister said that he would place the case immediately before Cabinet. I The Minister announced also that he ' hoped that the Unemployment Board would be functioning next month. He hoped that within a week after No--1 vember 7th he would be able to ani nounce the personnel of the Board. The Board set to work immediately, I and with the £lOO,OOO provided by the Government, it was hoped that work would be found in a very short time. ; The Minister denied absolutely and , emphatically that the Government intended to sack hundreds of men as soon as the session ended. He symi pathised with the men in their efforts ,to obtain work, because he believed that no one in the room wanted charity, and he hoped that”*- the Board I would aid them in finding that work.
