TROTTING.

FIXTURES. December 15, 17.—New Brighton T.C. December 26. —Gore T.C. December 26.—Ashburton T.C. December 26, 27.—South Wairarapa T.C. December 26, 27.—Westport T.C. December 27, 29, 31.—Auckland T.C. December 29. —Winton T.C. December 31.—Inangahua T.C. January 1, 2.—Canterbury T.C. January 3.—Westland T.C. January 4, s—Greymouth T.C. Prince Pointer is one of the early favourites for the Auckland Cup. If Peter Bingen got s to the post for the Auckland Cup he will be driven by J. J. Kennerley. St Maura has been turned out for a spell. She had not been showing anything like her best in her recent races. The mile and a-quarter record against time in America is held by Phil O’Neill, who has skipped ov r the distance in 2min 33|see. Peter Bingen’s 2m in 38 4-5 see is a world’s race record.

Limosa is smart in any kind of going, and as she’is in fine form at present, another win may conic her way before long. She is engaged at Gore on Boxing Day.

With King Pointer, Dalmeny. Free Advice, and The Abbey on the same mark in the Parnell Handicap, at the Auckland meeting the winner will have to g 0 fast if the going is good.

Sonoma Star can get to the end of a mile in saddle in smart time, but he is not reliable at the barrier. The first time he moves away to his handicap he will finish in the money.

Rita McKinney, who paid a very cramped price when she won at the Kurow Jockey Club’s meeting, is an improving pacer who is capable of winning a number of races. She has been nominated for the Gore meeting on Boxing Day.-

F. G. Holmes is taking a lot of patience with Jolly Pet at Addington, his chief concern being to induce him to start correctly. If Holmes succeeds in his mission, Jolly Pct will place some good w’ins to his credit over tw r o miles.

Peterwah looks to be well in his place on 4.24 in the Rowe Cup. Certainly he has a record of 4.23 3-5, but taking a line through some of those in front of him he would need to do somewhere round about that to win.

In the race she had at Forbury Park Jean McElwyn paced well for most of th e journey, but the last bit found her out. She should be all the better for the race and if she is taken to the Auckland meeting the mark she is on should find her running prominently in the Parnell Handicap.

J. Shaw will have a fine team racing at the Auckland Cup meeting among them being three first-flighters in Jewel Pointer. Native Prince, and The Abbey. Th e last named has improved out of sight lately, and at the Otahuhu meeting last mouth he touched 4.28 4-5 to finish third to Taipare and Laplander.

Bankhead was very heavily backed for the Australasian Handicap on the final day of the Metropolitan Club’s meeting, but got left at the post. The Logan Pointer gelding is very w r ell at present, however, and if he is taken to Auckland he will prove that the support which came for him at Addington was justified.

Discussing Peter Bingen’s world’s race record of 2min 38 4-5 secs. a Sydney writer points out the Americans have never raced over a mile and a-quarter, and American tables of records do not contain any race record over that distance., either trotting or pacing. The Now Zealanders, therefore can fairly claim the world’s race record, the same as Almont’s three miles in 6min 50sec remains a world’s record, simply because threemile races are not raced now either in America pr Australia. Almont’s best time over two miles w r as 4min 30 l-ssec, as against Great Bingen’s 4min 19 2-ssec. What start could Great Bingen have given him over three miles? The same applies to the mile and a-quarter record. It would only need the Americans to put on a mile and a-quarter race to make hash of the New Zealand record. Peter Bingen’s 2min 38 4-ssec wrnrks out 2min 7sec over the mile. The mile and a quarter record against time in i America is held by Phil O’Neil with | 2min 33|sec. a 2min 3sec gait. The ! Americans have a nine-furlong race ! record of 2min 17|sec made by Jean Grattan, and if she could have run on for another furlong at the same gait her time would have been 2min 324 teec. a 2min 2sec gait. However, until the Americans do beat Peter Bingen’s 2min 38 4-ssec and Almont’s 6min 50 sec, Australsia holds the world’s pacing race-records.
