RACING & TROTTING.

NEW BRIGHTON PROSPECTS (Bv “Original.”) CHRISTCHURCH, December 13. Owing to rare hen, there war little m, the tracks on Tuesday, and V< .-terday or to-day as it rained '■huV'.v nil the tinv. 'i h i't* ‘irp 24 i’«- u! ‘‘ opening event, , ■ '•• tl Handicap of 1- miles, for with a 3-50 limit. Sixteen oi <>n the limit. Dueo and should be tin best of Ihe limit hor.u s. Brandean, off 12, if he was reliable, would be th e hardest ts l-.Jat: Still, he is much better than hl was, and is working well. Fya Reta. off 60, should be the best of the

hack-markers. Of the 27 in the Improvers Handicap of 11 miles, with a 3.40 limit, 19 are off the end. Star Lady, who just not touched off at Ashburton on Saturday, when she went. 3.29 1-5, should, with Harold Lee, be the best of the front horses. Pet. Loeanda and Sonman Child are off 36. and after the former’s flue showing in the mile at i Ashburton, she will bo well supported. Hinkler, off 78. has been working well, and by the easy way he disposed of the Held he met at I’etone recently, must be considered. Star Lady figures amongst th e acceptors at Oamaru on Friday. As she is off the end of a 3.-10 class, and the rest are a moderate lot, her owner will most likely forego Brighton. Hinkler. Pet Loeanda and Harold Lee look like, being in the money when the line is crossed. Fourteen is the main for the Mace Memorial, with Meb and Firpo off the front. The former has been working well, but as she has been laid aside with lameness, she may be all the better for a ro.ee the first day, and may lie belt T the second up. Firpo, Matagouri, and Kotuku Jack do not appeal. Audominion leaves his feet too quickly for untiling. Shadowland has not

imd a race for some considerable time, but was worked out quite recently with a good mate. Its showing was good. Sarilla has done very little work, and certainly nothing to enthuse over her chance iu the race. Avenger doe - not see out the distance too good. Sunfish ami Harvest Child, both off 60 yards, are to make the trip North to the A.T.C. Summer Meeting, so a good race for them here o n Saturday, will compensate for the loss of training they have had this week owing to the continued rain. Ileal Light, off 84, was re-handicapped to that mark, after winning at Forbury Park, and as he went 4.33 2-5 there, he is not badly treated. Billy Sea won the big race at Brighton last meeting, but a smash up during the running of that race materially affected several well backed horses, Vesuvius being one of them. He ran fourth each day in the principal race at the recent Otahuhu Meeting. and his performance the last day was his best to date, as he -went 4.30 2-5. They are not a good lot , iienged. ami perhaps Shadowland, Harvest Child and Billy Sea may get the best share of the stake. Seventeen have cried content in the Bowhill Handicap of 11 miles, with a 3.55 limit, witii nine of them off -the front. Of the front-markers. Nan Brent, Hackthorne, Kiowa, Vikota and Rose Marie have done good work. Bonnie Prince and Athalone, off 12, seem the pick of that mark. Rose Marie. Athalone and. Nan Brent look a likely

The Ba h Handicap of one mile, with a 2.19 limit, claims 12 contestants, Audubon Lad and White Sun, off the front, must be considered. Great. Triumph., off 12, and Lord Bingen, off 24 look the likeliest of the others. With 18 engaged in the Seaviow Handicap, a two mile race for trotters with, a 4.50 limit, L.'re is room for a good contest. All Peters Repute and New Metford. from the front, should he capable o f putting up a good showing. Triimpcrisp, off 24, would be the |iiek. if he could be depended on to <ll his best. Sea Queen, off 36, raced fairly well at Oamaru. Randolph was responsible for a solid work-out here la t week. Lady Fan is a great beginner. and off 48 would soon bo up with the Laders. Young Carbine, on 48, is just now coming right. Nelson Ata. off 60, went a splendid race when he. won on th n second day at. Forbury Park. Nelson .McKinney likes the big track, but he did not race as well as

was expected at the Cup Meeting, but he was sore before the start of that

meeting, and may have been feeling the effects. Wild Hebe and Nelson Boy are off 72. The latter is a good beginner. and last Saturday in company with four of Tomkinson’s, put up a fine performance oven a two mile journey. Mangoutu and Sarsaparilla are off 96, the latter being preferable. Nighborn, also off 96, looked a greatly improved horse the last time I saw him work at Addington. He went very fast, and never made the semblance of a slip. Trampcrisp, New Metford and Nelson Boy look a formidable lot, but the stake is such a small one there may not be many anxious to go after ■■t. in view of much better prizes offering a little later on; in fact, those remarks apply to nearly all the programme. Out of 21 handicapped, only 10 have accepted for the Wainoni Handicap of 1} miles, with a 2.52 limit. Kate Thorpe, Warepa and Milo Minto are on 12. In Warepa starts in the big race earlier in the day. he is always worth considering the second time out. Milo Minto went 2.51 3-5 when he ran second to Kreisler in th e saddle race at Oamaru on Saturday, and goes this journey well. Arran Chiof, Sahib, Firpo and Granite City are on 24. If Sahib were reserved for this event, he would be the hardest to dispose of, but. if started in the big race, that makes all the difference. Arran Chief has not raced lately, but is reported working well. Granite City ran a star ling good race at the recent Welling (on .Meeting when in a good field hr finished a close third, to Marshal Neil and Bing Boy when he went 2.15 2-5 from 12 yards behind in the fast mile race. Dundas Boy and Harold Burwood are off 36. The former is booked for Auckland, and will most likely race on the first day. If Harold Burwood would repeat his track work, he would set them a task to beat him. Jolly Chimes, off 60, won the big race at the recent Wellington Meeting in good style, and goes this distance real well. Sahib.. Arran Chief and Warepa, if second start, should be in the argument over the latter stages of the contest.

The racing concludes with the Electric Handicap, on e mile, in saddle, with a 2.13 limit, for which nine (the smallest field of the day) remain in. Hackthorne, who will be ridden by D. Bennett, has been responsible for some sterling work (with Bennett up) in

saddle lately, and if he only leaves at the right time, the others' will know they have been to the races. Exclusive went, a real good race in the Railway Handicap at Wellington, fuiishlight up fourth. Audience has been responsible fo r some nippy work jverjhe distance at Brighton, ‘and off the rront should be considered. Haekthorne, Audience and Exclusive look like giving the back-markers a severe task t 0 ever reach them. NEW BRIGHTON TO-DAY The New Brighton Trotting Club’s summer meeting will open to-dav, and Will conclude on Monday. Excellent acceptances have been received for today and a good programme of racing should result. Below are given anticipations on tolay s running. Electric Handicap, one mile.—Hackthorne, Exclusive, Dick Logan, Audience scr., Stan Wilkes, Loburn, Alvira 12, Phil Smith, Lulu Lad 24.
