At last night’s meeting of the Greymouth Borough Council, the Alayor, Mr J. AV. Greenslade, said that since their last meeting the town had lost several of its most esteemed citizens, notable amoug whom had been Mr AV. R. Kettle, whose photograph in the Council Chamber reminded them of his term as Alayor as far back as the year 1893, and whom they all knew to have teen du. ing hi career a sm*i; ted wit . practically all of our local bodies. Hu had done everything in his power to promote the district’s welfare, and his passing was deplored. They only realised what good such a citizen had been after he had gone, but the late Air Kettle’s name would remain indelibly associated with the progress of Greymouth. Another respected citizen who had joined the great majority was the late Air James P. Irvine, who, while not associated with muni-ipal government, had a lengthy and most honourable record as a member of the County Council and the Hospital Board. He moved that the Council record its sense of regret at the passing of these respected old residents, and likewise Ihat of other most estimable citizens I who, while not identified with public life, had merited the esteem of the community, and had passed away re cently. The motion was carried in si lencc, the members standing.

A very pretty and interesting wedding was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church, Kumara, the Rev H. AL Cocks being the officiating clergyman, when Lily, eldest daughter of Air and Mrs A. Fensom. of Kumara, was married to Air R. J. Little only son of Mr and Mrs Little, of Sydney. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, was neatly attired in apricot georgette, trimmed with radium lace and crinoline hat to match, and carried a beautiful white bouquet with apricot tints. She was attended by her sister Sylvia as bridesmaid, who wore pale pink crepe de chine, trimmed with lace, and crinoline hat to tone, and also carried a bouquet of white and pink flowers. Air Bert Fensom carri< d out th e duties of best man. After the ceremony the wedding party motored to Greymouth, where the wedding repast was partaken of. In the evening a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s parents, where numerous friends of the young couple assembled. The usual toasts were musically honoured, and the best wishes and 'hearty congratulations: to the young couple were expressed. They left on Thursday en route for Christchurch, where the honeymoon will be spent. They intend to return to Kumara for Christmas, after which they leave for Launceston to reside.
