ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.
PLUCKY MAORI GIRL. GISBORNE, December 11. Al the inquest at Tekaraka, into the lc?ta of Joseph Wi Ttangi, who succumbed to burns sustained when a lamp overturned, Coroner Lewy gave warm praise to a little Maori girl. Lily Otcne, aged ten, for her remarkable presence of mind. The evidence showed that the girl followed the boy when he ran out of the house, and she extinguished his burning garment by wrapping him in a rug. She then returned to the house, and with water quenched the fire, thereby probably saving the life of her sister, who was a deep. AGED MAN’S TRAGIC END. ASHBURTON, December 12. Richard Toppin. 67, single, was found hanging in the outhouse of any hotel at Rakaia. He was a resident of the township for many years and was recently employed as a millhand. II ? is stated to have L.'en suffering from depression.
