FRENCH SENSATION.

Klotz’s Exploits. IN GOING THROUGH MONEY. (Received December 12 at 5.5 p.m.) PARIS. December 12. M. Doumer caused a sensation in the French Senate by announcing that thc Minister of Justice was seeking authority to take legal proceedings against M. Klotz, the former Cabinet Minister and a Versailles Treaty signatory. who though a financial expert, is stated by the Paris correspondent of the Daily Chronicle to have Jost 200.000 francs at La Toquet in the late summer, and subsequent gamb ling losses brought up the total to 8,000.000 francs.

The paper Le Temps alleges that the charges against Klotz will include the uttering of cheques to the value of 41720 when there was insufficient funds to meet them, and the forging of signatures to bills of exchange. A previous cable stated: Klotz has been taken to a mental home. The newspapers state that it is thc result of unfortunate financial transactions and heavy gambling. A vigorous attempt has been made to keep the fact secret. Klotz for some time seemed to have lost his sense of the value of money. He gambled for high stake* at a seaside casino, and paid with cheques which were dishonoured.
