Charged with Assaulting Patients. WELLINGTON. December 12. Thc ease was continued, before Mr Page. S.M., to-day, in which Tyrer, at. attendant at the Porirua Mental Hospital. is charged with causing bodily harm to a patient. A junior attendant named Quintail gave evidence fully corroborating the complainant’s story, telegraphed some days ago. H e was in a room while the assault took place, but had not interfered further than to say that the man had had enough. Witness proceeded to say that at accused’s instigation lie had agreed to concoct a story of a fight liaving taken place between patients, and hart signed accident forms to this effect, but witness said they were not true. Accused’s counsel, when thc proceedings opened, said accused intended to plead not guilty. Dr Macky, of the Hospital, who examined the patient, said he would believe the patient’s story, as his worn could be relied on. William Moseley, an attendant at thc Hospital, maintained that the patient was injured in a fight with another patient, and when on the ground he was kicked by a third patient. Witness had not taken much notice of the fight. He did not know why he had not mentioned it in his statement to the detective.
